This position was responsible for scheduling, preparing and accomplishing all environmental air testing engagements for power plants and large industrial boilers throughout the continental U.S. My staff consisted of two supervisors and 21 field testing technicians. As Operations manager I was also responsible for expanding the testing capability of the organization which included creating the procedure, purchasing equipment and practicing the technique. USTI added the capability to perform stack gas constituency testing and mercury testing during my time with the organization. The work performed by USTI is submitted to the EPA by the customer. There is no room for error in this work. Return engagements with our customers was due to the accuracy of the work, the professionalism of the workforce and respect for our clients. These factors are important to clients of every business.

Responsible for researching, identifying, contacting, scheduling calling on potential clients for environmental air testing. I made appointments and traveled to prospect companies facilities, usually with the General Manager, to present the services of USTI. I followed up with contract negotiation and prepared documents for signature. Assisted General Manager in all operations of this company from budgeting and establishing processes and procedures to writing and delivering presentations to the board of directors.

Planned and executed the marketing effort for an Engineering organization performing design and construction of electric energy delivery resources for industrial clients.

Provided technical and organizational support to the Key Account program which focused on the largest customers of American Electric Power's energy delivery subsidiaries operating in seven states. This program focused on the largest of the customers to support their businesses as much as possible from a providers position. Engineers and managers were assigned to support these customers as they looked for ways to improve their processes in an effort to remain competitive as manufacturing was moving off-shore. We created services that could be applied across the spectrum of the customers to aid in their ability to produce.

The Energy Service Manager position involved developing programs and goals for the field representatives working for the AEP operating companies such as Ohio Power, Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric, Wheeling Power, Appalachian Power, Kingsport Power and Indiana Michigan Power to serve the commercial and manufacturing customer base. During this time I developed a broad based training in electro-technologies for the field representatives that called on customers so that by understanding the customers situation could assist in solving problems and increasing efficiency. The training included space conditioning, process heating, energy auditing, distributed generation, process improvement and general energy knowledge.

As the leader in the division customer services department my responsibilities consisted of local program execution for assisting all groups of customers from roadside farm markets to the largest gray iron foundry Our mandate was to support the customer base. Employees reporting to this position handled all customer contact in the North central Ohio area that made up the Tiffin Division of Ohio Power Company. We consulted with manufacturers and other industrial type utility customers about processes that would enhance their production and profits. We recommended cost effective heating and cooling systems to the commercial businesses and homes as well as initiating service requests for new and renovated electrical services. This position was also responsible for all of the customer records, correct billing and bill payments for the division. The Economic Development effort in the Tiffin area and other towns in the division was a community project in which I took part. As a member of the Seneca County Economic Development Council I worked with other city leaders to bring business to the area. We maintained records of available sites for development and available empty buildings that could be used to establish industry that would bring jobs to our area. At this time I also was a member of the Tiffin Area Industrial Management Council where I rose through the officer ranks to chair the group for a year. The Council supported industry in the county. This group provided the base of work and income for the county. Continually growing the base was the goal of the organization.

As a member of the Ohio Power Rates and Tariffs department I was responsible for tariff design and submission of billing data for rate reviews at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. This position required interaction with all the other departments in the Ohio Power Company to aggregate the data necessary for the required data submissions. All the operations of an electric utility were integral to a rate filing and there is no better place to understand what makes a utility work. This position also gave me insight into the Public Utilities Commission and how they conduct business and what their goals are. The PUCO management has changed over the years as has some of their philosophy but a large portion of the way they operate remains the same. My work in the Rates and Tariffs Department and with the PUCO gives me the background needed to be able to read and apply the somewhat arcane PUCO rules and utility tariffs that determine my clients monthly costs.
