Research Officer
CurrentResponsible for conducting research to support exhibitions under development as well as a variety of other activities – a varied role defined by the need to communicate often abstruse subjects to a non-expert audience both inside and outside the Trust.Writing detailed research reports in order to identify promising subjects for exhibition interpretation, and thereafter working with exhibitions, archives and curatorial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency of message throughout the development of exhibitions.Responsible for developing a large part of a new, major exhibition with a 10-year lifespan originally intended to open in 2022, and coordinating work to identify relevant items throughout the Trust’s and external collections.Along with the social media team, researching and coordinating a ‘Twitter takeover’ to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day, in which 182 genuine Enigma messages were posted exactly 75 years after they were originally intercepted at Bletchley Park.Writing articles for the in-house magazine and website, such as the monthly ‘Collections Uncovered’ highlighting objects from the collection.Proofreading and copy-editing a variety of documents such as visitor guidebooks, press releases and learning materials to ensure historical accuracy and correct tone.Researching and delivering the Bletchley Park Podcast.Several radio and TV appearances.Delivering lectures and special events for Friends of the Trust.Attaining and maintaining an intimate knowledge of the relevant historical literature and the Trust’s archival holdings in order to interpret these for colleagues throughout the organisation.
