Currently, I am operating a rural cooperative system from my hometown in Iowa. While this is a smaller system than I previously operated, it presents new challenges and opportunities that will help to round out and increase my knowledge of the electrical grid. We currently utilize a radio and phone system to perform much of the daily work. Some of this work includes switching, maintenance, generation coordination, and maintaining system integrity. In addition to that list, is a new challenge in hourly accounting. Performing hourly, nightly, and on/off-peak checkouts with multiple other companies has very much increased my knowledge on how the interchange aspect is handled throughout the grid. All in all, I'm benefiting immensely from a great opportunity.

I currently operate BES level equipment for a large part of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The system I'm responsible for has a historical peak load of just under 13,000 MW. In keeping the system running, we perform tasks such as switching, managing contingencies, coordinating with external companies, keeping voltages at proper levels, and day-to-day troubleshooting. Voltages can range anywhere from 69KV - 500KV. To sum up, I operate one of the largest transmission systems in America.

For all six years of service, I was infantry. This particular military specialization requires hard work and dedication beyond that of normal positions. In doing so, I obtained multiple awards, spent one year deployed to Kosovo, and was given responsibilities that were critical to mission success. This job forced me to mature at a young age, while developing life-long hard work habits that translate well into the private sector.
