Thomas Watts is a second year graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at UT Austin. He is currently researching High-Nickel cathode materials in the Texas Materials Institute and Mechanical Engineering Department. His research helps lower battery manufacturer's dependence on Cobalt in battery cathodes, lowering cathode cost and increasing capacity. Thomas has actively participated on the Missouri S&T Formula SAE team, Missouri S&T Makerspace, he is a LEAD tutor for Mechanics of Materials, and member of Pi Tau Sigma mechanical engineering honors society. He held the Missouri S&T excellence scholarship, curator’s scholarship, university scholarship, and Missouri “Bright Flight” scholarship, all while earning a 3.92 GPA during his undergraduate career. At UT Austin he has earned the Leigh Family Endowed Graduate Fellowship, as well as a 4.0 GPA.
