My professional Microscopy career began in 2011 as a microscope service technician. Before that, I enjoyed a career in machining, working several jobs as a contractor for the government. The knowledge I gained as a machinist and microscope service technician have proved invaluable. I have always been interested in complex imaging systems, cameras and software. As a service technician, I found that many of my customers had a need beyond service and repair, they needed new components. Those components could be a simple camera for brightfield imaging, software to integrate and control different system components or many components to create a new system for their expanding application(s).In 2020, I made the decision to start my own Microscope sales and service company, Voxyl Microscopes. My unique background and knowledge of different systems and 3rd party components helps me guide customers looking for new systems or upgrading existing ones. I decided to work with reputable manufacturers that offer a range of solutions, both in terms of complexity and price. Not every lab can afford the most advanced components, but they may not be necessary! Sometimes, imaging can be performed (with similar results) at a fraction of the cost. That can come in the form of 'lesser' known brands or lightly used equipment. I thoroughly enjoy microscopy and helping my customers find solutions that are the best fit for their needs and budget.In early 2022, I opened an online microscope store called Microscope Supply as a way to provide quality microscopes and accessories for a fair price. In 2023, I developed a very inexpensive 'contrast kit' for hobbysists wanting to view microorganisms. It brings me tremendous joy to see people, young and old, introduced to microscopy. It's a fascinating hobby and has been a fulfilling and rewarding career.
