As a Senior Technician I am currently tasked with the identification and delineation of hydrologic breaklines for the various rivers, lakes, and/or ocean coastline that are within a given project’s LiDAR based digital elevation model in order to accurately represent their extent within client-based collection parameters. When collecting breaklines I must differentiate where the true water’s edge is from “noise” that can be created by excessive, extraneous, or nonexistent returns in the point cloud that are often created by vegetation, overhanging manmade structures, or surface water movement captured by the sensors. While my focus now is in LiDAR and its applications, I previously worked with the photogrammetry crew gaining proficiency in Photoshop CC and Esri’s ArcGIS software to identify and correct blemishes and errors found within rectified imagery; how to correctly stitch together and color balance disparate imagery digitally; and the data management skills to initiate and make project deliverables for clients.

In this position I assisted in the preparation of samples by describing sedimentary cores with the aid of a Munsell color charts; photographing cores; recording the bulk density of specified increments within the cores; sectioning cores to retrieve aliquots to be processed for particulate organic carbon (POC), mercury content, and grainsize analysis; and running samples beneath the radiochemistry fume hoods in nitric, hydrochloric, and hydrofluoric acids with a polonium 210 tracer to determine the quantity of lead-210 (210Pb) in order to ascertain the sample’s sedimentary chronology.
