I was a peer mentor for the civil engineering learning community class at Iowa State. It is a class that helps freshman and transfer students get acclimated to the civil engineering program by presenting information on the career fair, the emphasis areas of civil engineering, and required coursework over a 4-year plan. I helped plan weekly activities for students, gave feedback on new class activities to help plan for the spring and any future fall semesters, and led my peer mentor group by serving as a resource for their questions as well as for professional advice.

I was reading and taking notes on research papers describing effects of seatbelts on passengers during crashes to discuss with my research professor, Jonathan Wood. I met with professor to discuss plans for research throughout semester: collecting data and analyzing clavicle injuries in crashes caused by shoulder belts.

Online full-time STIPDG intern for the Federal Highway Administration (through The Washington Center). Primary office is located in Madison, WI, but was working at home in Evergreen Park, IL. My primary task was understanding FHWA's oversight role to State DOTs and regulation references, key program areas/funding eligibility with focus on technical areas (Pavement & Materials, Safety, Design, Structure - Bridges/Tunnels, Right of Way and local programs). Some of my work included assisting in reviews for statements of work and program implementation programs. I also helped present at and help facilitate some office meetings.
