Worked as a junior design engineer as part of a year placement for my course. Worked closely with the mechanical and electrical design teams to improve existing machines and create new designs using the 3D CAD program Solidworks. Key responsibilities:- To conduct mathematical analysis on assembly structures when required to ensure machines were fit for purpose in line with customers expectations. Calculators using Excel were also produced to reduce time required for future analysis of machines with similar criterion.- To develop a thorough understanding of the CAD software Solidworks and continually improve using it.- Liaise with on-site engineers when issues arise and produce a solution as fast as possible.- Flag any issues noticed with designs and work with members of the design team to produce a solution.Key Accomplishments:- Designed the 'herringbone' lineshaft conveyor machine not previously offered by Sovex. Currently are in use at material depot sites with Interlink at Sheffield, and with Yodel at Enfield. This greatly reduced costs and lead times to produce a machine which can centralise materials from two different parcel flows.- Adopted the design responsibilities. for the site required by Yodel at Enfield. This included designing the 'herringbone' machine along with a swing out moving belt plough to ensure the plans of the engineering team from Yodel for the site would allow it to be operational. I also managed the existing number of machines required to allow the site layout to be created, taking to account; the number of machines of each type already existing on site, machine inventory in Sovex warehouses, and what would need to be purchased to produce any additional machines required.
