Testing occurs at the bulk/batch stage as well as the finished product stage. Product needs to be moved quickly, so performing tests and releasing products to ship must be done in a timely manner. In addition, all testing must be done as accurately as possible to ensure there are no falsely failing products or worse, falsely passing products.Testing can be as simple as checking the color and appearance of a product. Most take pH and specific gravity, but many also include gas chromatography, UV/Visible light absorbance and spectrophotometry, viscosity, refractive index, and normality. As such, I have gained valuable experience operating the various scientific instruments used to evaluate the above criteria, including Gas Chromatographs, UV/VIS Spectrophotometers, Viscometers, and many others. Many times during the day, colleagues from all over the company come to the lab with concerns and questions about products and protocol, and it is our responsibility to answer them based on historical data as well as innovative forward thinking. We use these same techniques to continuously improve the working conditions and efficiency of the lab. Show less
