Thomas is an Australian Chartered Accountant and a senior member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has been with audit firms for more than 30 years, started even before his graduation with the University of Sydney in 1984. This includes working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world and Asia’s largest firm, for 16 years in their Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney National offices, before becoming an audit partner (director) in local firms over 17 years ago. He never thought of being an accountant nor having knowledge of any accounting skills until his form mistress in Year 11 at the Baulkham Hills High (currently academically selective high school and No. 2 ranked in Sydney) asked him what he wanted to become and the benefit of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Once he made his decision to become a Chartered Accountant, he put all his energy and financial resources on it for the following 9 years and he finally made it!At the end of his 3 years with PriceWaterhouse Sydney for his Chartered Accountant qualification in 1988, he returned to Hong Kong, spending significant energy and financial resources on learning Japanese. In early Ninties he joined the Japanese Department of PW Hong Kong where he could develop his language skills, and stayed there for some 10 years. The result is a local Practising CPA who can work directly with clients in Japanese and sign off their accounts. This is scarce in Hong Kong. And he is competitive and hardworking, trying to visit most of his clients during field work and gives value-added advice to them.
