I am an Equity Shareholder at Klinedinst, PC, in San Diego. I help employers avoid disputes with their employees by providing employment counseling on a wide array of issues. When there is a dispute, I defend employers in litigation, including discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, as well as wage and hour class actions and PAGA representative claims, for minimum wage, overtime, meal and rest break, paid sick leave, wage statement, and other claims, in state and federal courts, private arbitrations, and administrative hearings. I also craft employee handbooks, company policies, offer letters, severance agreements and other employment-related agreements, including arbitration and confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements. Particularly in employment law, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Seemingly small violations can quickly turn into major problems, including individual litigation and class action or PAGA representative lawsuits. To avoid these problems, I counsel employers on best practices, policies and multifaceted human resources issues. When litigation is threatened, or has been filed, I work with clients at each stage of the process to manage costs and expectations, and develop the best litigation strategy possible. I regularly resolve complex litigation through direct negotiations, mediation, and dispositive motions.Prior to law school, I worked as an actor, performing roles on national tours and in regional theatres, including the Kennedy Center, the Goodman Theatre, and Chicago Shakespeare, among others. The skills I developed working in the theatre translate into into effective advocacy for clients in the courtroom.
