Past President, The Mended Hearts, Inc., Bethesda Heart Hospital
October 2018 Update, The Bethesda Heart Hospital was acquired by Baptist Health. As such, in September, The Baptist Health group implemented its own exiting visitor and patient support program. The current President conveyed to me that while the hospital would continue to provide a meeting room, Patient visitors would not be able to discuss "The Mended Hearts" to develop and grow membership. As such, at the October meeting, the current President and Chapter Board Voted to disband the Chapter and if members wished they could participate at other regional hospitals with a Mended Hearts Chapters 2018 update, as Past President, I continue to provide leadership and mentoring advice to the new team in support of the hospital coordinator. In May of 2017, we met and achieved the goals to re-establish Boynton Beach as a full Chapter. A new board of officers was elected. A board with energetic, competent and confident individuals, whom I will proudly support as Past-President and advisor. My previous responsibilities were:Maintain, grow the existing organization, promote chapter, membership growth and awareness with the goal to reestablish Boynton Beach's Charter.Organize monthly meetings, topics and securing speakersVisit Patients Pre and Post SurgeryTraining new patient visitorsVisitation and meeting coordination with Cardio-thoracic surgical support and nursing staff in 2014, Through no fault of its own, the Boynton Beach Chapter lost its leadership team, membership, direction and as I became its president in late 2014, its "charter". We became a satellite of another Chapter. The basic "mission" of "The Mended Hearts" is to promote positive patient outlook and outcomes. Visiting patients using active listening to provide the reassuring voice of someone who has been in their shoes. Also provide "The Mended Hearts" created cardiac health education materials along with invitation to attend monthly support group meetings.
