Research Intern
Conducted a semi-independent research project investigating the expression pattern and function of atrial specific genes in embryonic heart development. Understanding the role of these genes in the pathogenesis of congenital heart defects can ultimately lead to the treatment and prevention of these diseases. Research project completed in the Sean Wu Lab at the Cardiovascular Institute of the Stanford School of Medicine, under the guidance of Guang Li, PhD. Internship was facilitated by the Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) with additional funding from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). Day-to-day work in the lab involved bacterial cloning, gel electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and RNA in-situ hybridization. Research for this project also required the usage of RNA single-cell sequencing, CRISPR, pronuclear injection, and Sanger sequencing. Internship concluded with the submission of a project abstract, in conjunction with a PowerPoint oral presentation and formal poster session.
Summer Intern
Selected as Stanford University's representative at CIRM's annual Summer Program to Accelerate Regenerative Medicine Knowledge (SPARK) conference to deliver an oral presentation detailing research project about the role of atrial specific genes in embryonic heart development.
