My initial role at Barclays Capital, for around 5 years, was as part of the credit derivatives trading and structuring business. I was responsible for a geographic region of Northern Europe and the Middle East. The role involved creating credit derivative investment solutions for a range of clients, working with external asset managers to manage credit portfolios, as well as the associated sales and marketing effort into the regions. I also led the marketing into APAC on the deals we were going global on. Head of Asset Solutions, UK and Ireland. Shortly before the GFC I was invited to move from credit derivatives structuring into the UK/Ireland derivatives sales team to focus on cross asset class solutions for institutional investors, mainly the larger asset managers and pension funds. This role covered all asset classes that Barclays Capital were involved in, from the mainstream (interest rates, equity, credit, fx) through to the more esoteric such as private equity and even physical gold. My final role at Barclays Capital, for the last couple of years I was at the firm, was to build a team in exotic/more structured equity and funds solutions for UK and Ireland. Similarly to the move from credit derivatives trading/structuring team to sales, I was invited to take the role by a colleague who had become European Head of Equity Derivatives. The role involved day to day execution of the more exotic equity derivative products as well as longer term solution business with clients, such as volatility control products, efficient beta, enhanced alpha and other systematic investment products across various asset classes.
