Let’s say you have a ton of Royalty Statements you need to name and file. What do you do? You open the statement, get the information you need (account number, period, source etc), click rename, and type all that in, and then find the directory you want it to reside in and drag it in and start over, with as many as 500 statements to go right?WRONG! You use Python, to create data sets (called Dictionaries) that contain a key - value pair, the key being the account number (usually in the downloaded file) as the key and whatever you want to rename it as he value. No account number in the statement name when downloaded? NO PROBLEM! You use regular expressions and a Python technique to scrape that information and inject into your script at time of execution!By the way, this technique is also applied to filing your statement on your system, so no more dragging either! Click, DONE.Maybe someone has asked you to fix a bunch of files that have the same prefix in the name, but it was misspelled. This could be in the hundreds. That’s going to take a while, right?WRONG! You use a simple Python script to fix EVERY FILE IN THE FOLDER in seconds.Maybe you need to combine a bunch of check request PDF files with their corresponding Royalty Statements before sending to your client. And you want the name of the check request to be the name of the combined file. You could do this manually with Adobe in thumbnail view, or - you guessed it, you could write a Python script that will concatenate the two docs in the order you tell it, and use the name of a particular file as the name for the new concatenated file. In a fraction of the time.Ok, you’ve got 700 quarterly Royalty statements in PDF format that need to be named and filed in subdirectories by category in one master directory for the quarter. Problem is, the sub directories don’t exist and organizing all of these docs into them is going to be a task.Not with Python. Done in minutes.How do I know if I have these statements filed already? I guess I can look through all of the client folders for them.OR…. I can automatically keep record of them by name, date filed or even absolute file path in a csv, xlsx, text or even SQL file in real time as I process them ….. with Python.How do I know this all works? Because I do it every day. Reducing the time it takes to perform redundant manual tasks exponentially equates to a major return in efficiency.
