English language teacher for secondary level, and teacher trainer. I signed a short contract until the end of the academic year to bring a native speaker's perspective to the secondary classes, and my experience in professional development and teacher training to the teachers' room. I have completed several training sessions, as well as mentoring teachers and teaching them strategies to improve their English grammar.I have instigated a reflective, professional development framework, introduced the principles of CLIL, and introduced a new paradigm of qualitative, formative feedback rather than objective grading.

As part of my DELTA course, I shared a class of elementary to pre-intermediate English learners; an interesting mix of asylum seekers, refugees and EU citizens. As you can imagine, I got to know these guys pretty well in a few short weeks. This class experienced my 'experimental' project; teaching using Caleb Gattegno's 'Silent Way', using cuisenaire rods. Not entirely successful, but a great learning experience for me!

Firstly, as an English Teacher, then as Senior Teacher/Teacher Coach, I worked at T.B.I in Paskal Hypersquare, Pasir Kaliki, Bandung. My duties included:Deputising for the academic team leader in day to day management issues;Designing and delivering training workshops to teachers and managers;Observing and mentoring all teachers as part of a professional development assessment, linked to the school’s appraisal system;Planning and implementing bespoke syllabuses and short courses, subject to needs analysis of the stakeholder/student;Planning and teaching students’ classes in a variety of contexts from ESP, EAP, international exam preparation, business English, state school classes (Kindergarten, primary, secondary), bespoke 1 to 1 tutorial, conversation, general English (from elementary to proficiency);Managing the school’s library of supplementary materials and methodology books and designing new materials/realia for classroom use; Enacting school policy amongst teachers, and serving as liaison between teachers and management; Placement testing and interviewing new students, writing reports and conducting end of course parent meetings for young learners, administrating, marking and designing achievement tests;Assisting with induction and orientation of new native speaker teachers.

My first experience of teaching overseas. I learned the basics and got a thorough grounding in communicative language teaching.

I took this opportunity to replace a teacher who had left the school, and take his classes for the remainder of the academic year. It had always been a dream of mine to see behind the old 'Iron Curtain', and I had an excellent 4 months, enjoying beautiful Kiev, and visiting Lvov and Odessa.
