I was that one kid at an NFL Game carrying around a sheet of paper tallying every first down, taking note of every incompletion, and spectacular touchdown. Every game or task could be turned into an excel spreadsheet or scatter plot, even if it was as trivial as determining the right ratio of coffee to water (1:11 French Press is my preference). As I progressed in collecting and analyzing data, I realized that there were, and still are, countless stories that can be told if time is spent investigating the data.Arriving at NC State as a Statistics major, I knew that I had the opportunity to learn and access the tools needed to explore and analyze data sets I had dreamed of in middle and high school. Not only could I scrape Mock Drafts off of BleacherReport using R or SAS, but I could then develop an interactive RShiny app to share with the world. The questions and ideas I have are near endless (ask any of my friends…). Exploring data, and telling the story behind it is not be like a doctor taking an x-ray, rather a 6-year-old eating a bowl of Lucky Charms, and at the end stating “I want more!”My specialty is using R and Base SAS to analyze data and then communicate statistical findings to a broader audience. I am currently learning PostgreSQL to better understand databases and how to use them to improve efficiency and reliability of data. I am currently seeking a position in sports statistics, data research, or a similar type role after I graduate in May 2021.
