Managed all aspects of engineering, design, and technology development for AEP renewable and fossil generating fleet. Leveraged asset R&D advancement for deployment of new plant technologies. Led engineering team to provide engineering management and technical oversight support for generating plants, including self-perform work, advancement in equipment and process technical knowledge, major project engineering / design support, and daily operational support to AEP fossil, hydro, and renewable generating plants.* Brought on-line and maintained 2.0+ GW of renewable wind and solar owned generation projects across 11-state regulated company footprint, reducing customer energy charges and carbon emissions.* Transitioned large self-performing technical engineering organization to heavily matrixed department of technical professionals focused on performing value added services for business partners, maintaining critical competencies while outsourcing low value commodity work and producing sizable bottom-line savings and facilitating flexible project manpower loading.

Managed and directed all mechanical engineering and design activities for AEP. Developed and maintained design basis for systems and equipment including turbine / generators, steam generators, FGD and emission control equipment, water chemistry, fire protection and balance of plant equipment.• Established flue gas stream design basis to convert 800 MW and 1300 MW steam generator flue gas systems to balanced draft by specifying operating pressures and temperatures; performing and reviewing calculations used for NFPA code compliance, boiler combustion controls modifications, and AEP designed ductwork reinforcement; and performing calculation review / acceptance of steam generator OEM and AE reinforcement detailed designs.• Retrofitted FGD alloy reactor vessels to accommodate solid residue removal across AEP’s fleet by designing and managing entryways and acid brick floor / epoxy coating additions.

Established design basis, coordinated, and approved all conceptual, preliminary, and final engineering and design deliverables for the $1.8B 600 MW John W. Turk Plant coal fired power plant constructed and operated in Fulton, AR. Managed engineering, design, procurement and installation of major capital and maintenance boiler and steam generator equipment projects for the AEP generating fleet. Recommended steam generator and boiler component repairs and replacements based on visual and other destructive and nondestructive examination (NDE) techniques.• Performed advanced steam temperature and piping metallurgical selections, making Turk Plant the most advanced and efficient coal fired generating facility in the United States.• Specified, procured, and managed $300M+ of boiler pressure part replacements, reducing eastern fleet effective forced outage rate (EFOR) from 15% to <5%.
