I’m older than the internet, and apart from working for my dad every Saturday and school holiday from the age of 8 until I left school (“No son of mine is going to lounge around for 6 weeks”) I’ve only had 2 proper jobs. Neither of them lasted a year. Dad also helped me realise that the control and flexibility of being in charge are more important to me than the security of a salary. Since then, I bought the 2nd business I worked for, grew it to 26 staff, a £1m plus turnover (when that was still a big number), and watched it fail and have to close.I have been involved in creating, managing and growing several other businesses since then. Some did well then failed. Some just didn’t work. Or haven’t worked yet. Some are still doing well. Whatever the outcome, I’ve learned something important from it, and I keep trying to get better every day.I’m good at getting things done, believe that simpler is better than more complicated, although simple rarely means easy, and I love the challenge of building teams that deliver the impossible for demanding clients.I like finding creative solutions to difficult problems and believe that work should be fun, because then it doesn’t feel like work. And I still can’t lounge around for 6 weeks – thanks Dad!ExperienceI was asked to join ACS for just a year, while Lisa was on maternity leave. It’s been such a fun challenge that 15 years later, I’m still here! In that time, we have grown from a small, 5-person team in a serviced office to 30+ colleagues all focused on giving our clients the best outcomes.We’ve developed our own way of working that prioritises effectiveness over efficiency, because we have proven, over and over, that the best way to resolve difficult accounts is to have a single point of contact for the customer. No diallers, no scripts, no mindless automation. Because it works.
