Member of the Networking & Cloud Services team that focuses on routing, switching (wired and wireless), and firewall/security solutions. Part of a team responsible for designing and implementing IP communications (wired and wireless) and network-layer security throughout the 8-city DWDM network (8 hospitals; 130+ clinics and smaller offices) including edge security for all external network connections. Technologies include Cisco Catalyst network routers and switches, Nexus switches (7K/5K/2K), host and network-based antivirus, host and network-based intrusion detection, email security and content filtering, web content filtering, firewall and VPN technologies, VoIP and collaboration system, load-balancing technologies, DNS and DHCP management, etc.Lead the technical direction of OSF's network including standards and practices, product selection, and overall architecture. Mentor lower-level or lesser-experienced staff when possible. Follow the published IT processes and set the example for the rest of the team.Provide internal top tier technical support for the multi-vendor (primarily Cisco) networking infrastructure and Microsoft NOS infrastructure. Act as a sounding board for miscellaneous technical questions from other Information Systems teams. Frequently called in to evaluate new technology and participate in enterprise-wide product evaluations. I frequently work with the Storage and VM teams to develope new deployments of that technology or improve existing service.Primary troubleshooter for various teams and systems. Called in for special cases including network packet analysis and application traffic flow analysis. Often asked to troubleshoot systems outside of my normal scope of work or expertise due to my strong troubleshooting skills in general.Manage the DNS domain portfolio for OSF as well as management of the SSL certificate portfolio.

Primary person responsible for network edge security design. Including selection of firewalls, VPN controllers/concentrators, email gateways, web content filtering/IDS/IPS, and traffic load balancing.Install and maintain the first collaboration system at OSF - Cisco MeetingPlace. I am also a primary member of the team that searched for its replacement when the business decided to change direction in this space.Design, install, and maintain the DNS and hardware-based load balancing solutions. This includes primary owner of certificate management (for SSL), external DNS management, and domain name management.Part of the team that manages and maintains the routing and switching network with responsibilities that include maintaining current software levels, installation of hardware at new offices, troubleshooting problems which may require interaction the the vendor for support, participate in new architecture projects.Provide internal top tier technical support for the multi-vendor (primarily Cisco) networking infrastructure and Microsoft NOS infrastructure. Designed, built and maintained websites with online order entry systems for 5 horticulture and 4 consumer goods subsidiaries. Web sites were linked to mainframe-based (MVS w/CICS) order entry system and backend AIX-based warehouse management systems.I also built and maintained the hardware and software backend for the website server components including microsoft IIS web servers, Microsoft SQL server, Cisco load balancer hardware, the firewall and all associated network hardware.

Designed, built and maintained network infrastructure for 7 interconnected facilities across 6 cities utilizing Token-ring and Ethernet technologies. Server infrastructure originally built with IBM's OS/2 and migrated to Microsoft NT near the end of my term in this position. I led the introduction of email (starting with CC:mail and migration to Exchange 5.5) and Internet connectivity to F&G.Supported the desktop computing environment including the development and support of several PC-based applications to better manage internal catalog development processes.

Primary support for end-users and their desktops. This support included both application and hardware support. In addition, I was responsible for developing many PC applications for specific business functions. This included writing the specifications, developing and testing the code, training the users, and maintaining the applications once in production. Applications were written in a mixture of C and Clipper.

Ah, my foot in the door... I loaded tapes (reels and cartridges) from a 20,000 tape library, ran 4 line printers and two newer continuous-form laser printers, and monitored the job schedule and status of the mainframe system that ran it all. Oh...and did I mention that I got stuck on 3rd shift?!

My roots...where I was introduced to large system computing (would an IBM System/36 be considered large ;). My duties involved running the nightly batch processing for 5 banks (including running checks through the MICR reader).My first job and I was already thinking process improvement. After teaching myself RPG (off the clock), I wrote a batch management interface to automate most of the nightly processes. I turned a 6-hour manually intensive process into a few hours of easy monitoring.
