About Tom Brune

A finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting, I cover Washington for Newsday, the New York daily. My investigative and data projects have created change, and I cover the big stories in the nation's capital. I co-authored the book Serpent on the Staff, about the AMA, and have written for the New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and Seattle Times. I have taught data journalism and statistics at Northwestern University and the University of Maryland J-schools, and in Vietnam and China. I'm also a co-founder and an advisory board member of the Investigative Project on Race and Equity, based in Chicago.
