A distinguished career in professional football spanning over thirty years has seen me enjoy major success playing at the pinnacle of English football in the Premier League. This was followed by a coaching career that has brought substantial achievements to every club in which I have been involved. I have accumulated a vast wealth of experience and knowledge of the game as a player, coach, and scout.During my playing career, as a centre forward and winger, there were notable achievements. These include starring in a Championship winning side with Middleborough and promotion to the Premier League, playing in a Championship Play-Off final at Wembley for Leicester and gaining promotion with Bradford to the First Division in another Wembley final. I achieved international recognition featuring for Scotland at youth and under twenty-one level. My coaching career began at youth level. I am proud that I brought through several players who went on to have professional careers in league football.( At Oldham: Neal Eardley, Chris Taylor who played at the higher end of the Championship. At Chesterfield Tendayi Darikwa in the Premier League). My major achievements in my first team coaching career have been: finishing in the Play-Offs in my debut season with Oldham despite having one of the lowest budgets in the league, winning Division Two and promotion with Chesterfield, winning the Johnsons Paint trophy with Chesterfield and winning the same trophy with Barnsley. Winning this cup twice with two different outfits is an accomplishment which has been achieved by no other coach in the trophy’s history. Finally, I won promotion to the Championship with Barnsley via the League One Play-Off finals at Wembley, in a season, which saw Barnsley at the foot of the League at Christmas and finishing off the season as the form team in Europe. Subsequently, I have won a further promotion to League 1 with Swindon Town in 2019-2020 as champions.
