The Independent is the campus newspaper for Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. The paper and I regularly won multiple awards winner from the Illinois College Press Association and took 1st Place Best in Show at the Associated Collegiate Press Association. Personal awards from IPA included headline writing, investigative reporting, news stories and photography.Worked up from news editor. As Editor-in-chief, over saw all aspects of the editorial side of the paper and worked closely with the business manager and university to see to the operational needs of the paper. The Independent had a circulation of 4,000. I oversaw the project to create the Independent's on line edition.

Hosted political program on Northeastern Illinois University's radio station. Hosted guests including Chicago aldermen and local leaders and activists. Produced field reports of events in Chicago for broadcast. Covered events from the field for spot and breaking news coverage.

Produced, edited and filed audio news packages as Chicago reporter for Pacifica Radio Network's nationally syndicated Free Speech Radio News program.

Booked bands and other entertainment at three separate music venues in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Music varied from rock, ska, funk, punk, hip hop and rockabilly to Salsa and many styles of jazz. High profile shows included FEAR, Laurel Aitken, Grammy award winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and hosted a regular all pro jazz jam with sax great Von Freeman and Larry Smith of WBEZ. Also designed weekly print ads, coordinated with event sponsors and oversaw day of show production.
