The key to software quality is thorough design and careful implementation on a feature-by-feature basis. Each cycle of development should be debugged and reviewed before the team advances to the next round of features. Proceeding in this manner with the product always in an operational, albeit limited, state the development schedule can be tracked accurately and on-time completion can be predicted reliably. One sign of a good design is that it can be communicated easily to the development team. Good designs have an “obvious” quality about them; I would say “beauty”.
