Torsten is currently a web developer at Fireside21 helping members of Congress communicate with their constituents.Prior to this role he was a legislative aide in the Maryland General Assembly (MGA) handling the legislative agenda for the office of Delegate Mary Washington including bills around housing and homelessness, incarcerated women, business regulation, and government efficiency. Additionally he also coordinated the reelection campaign for the member including securing volunteers for events, donor prospecting, field, fundraising, and database management.Prior to the MGA, Torsten interned for Representative Patrick Murphy where he was tasked with press clippings and reaching out to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Small Business Administration, and the Department of Veterans Affairs for constituent data for a 499 proactive constituent outreach program.In college he was selected competitively and funded for the Victory Congressional Internship through the Victory Institute. There he interned for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and attended bi-weekly professional development seminars. He also attended the Victory Fund Candidate and Campaign training where his team wrote a campaign plan and budget and their group was selected as the winning team presentation at the conclusion of the training.He's passionate about transportation and housing policy, open government, and systems design. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Torsten now lives in Baltimore, Maryland and is an avid cyclist and train enthusiast living near the largest train station he could find in the city. In his spare time he enjoys volunteering for campaigns or progressive organizations, blues dancing, discovering new recipes on yummly.com, the oxford comma, and linux.
