I teach Biochemistry and Methods in Biotechnology, so I value meeting professionals in the Biotech and Pharma industry, especially those who are willing share their current experience with students. I also enjoy meeting academic scientists, several of whom have welcomed me to their lab as a Visiting Scientist during my sabbaticals. In my free time, I have a strong interest in ameliorating poverty and climate change, especially by promoting universal access to basic education and family planning, a goal set by the UN in 1994.To this end, I volunteer for an organization called ADWAN-Nepal, an NGO run by Dalit women in Nepal. Their goal is to organize and train rural women into self-run savings and microfinance groups which facilitates the formation of small businesses, the growth of community held funds, and the graduation of their children from school.
