S&T A&As Sme, Dtra, Advanced & Emerging Threats Division, R&D Directorate
CurrentPostgraduate Research Fellow
Under the direction of Dr. John McDonough, Ph.D. and Dr. Hilary McCarren, Ph.D., our team's primary focus was finding better therapies to protect the warfighter by preventing and reversing the effects of chemical threat agents on the brain, with particular focus on refractory seizures. We utilized electroencephalography (EEG) and neuropathological analysis to evaluate standard and novel pharmaceutical interventions. Our models were designed to mimic real-world treatment scenarios, including emergency first-response and longer-term intensive care.
Iv Pharmacy Technician
As a technician, my responsibilities included sterile preparation of parenteral injections and infusion fluids for patient use in various departments throughout the clinic system. This process required the proficient preparation and disposal of drugs classified as controlled substances and/or hazardous agents. Additionally, I was responsible for assisting the pharmacist on duty in their day to day tasks to prepare and dispense pharmaceutical drugs in accordance with standards, State and Federal laws, and department policies and procedures, by filling and delivering prescription orders, stocking medication dispensing cabinets throughout the hospital, and triaging calls from providers and nurses. This role required cooperative and courteous interaction with co-workers and healthcare providers to provide customers and patients excellent customer service with each request.
Sales Associate
As a sales associate, my goal was to provide excellent service to ensure customer satisfaction. My responsibilities included opening and closing the store(s) located in the fast-paced, high-energy environments of UW-Madison’s Camp Randall Stadium and Kohl Center, with respective capacities of 80,000 and 18,000 fans, as well as other store locations; handling bank deposits; maintaining store merchandise; inventory management; store upkeep; promoting the store’s rewards program; and, most importantly, providing excellent customer service to guests visiting the facilities on college game days. Often, serving as the only employee on staff during the day, I was responsible for addressing any questions or concerns customers had both over the phone and in the store, assisting with their shopping needs, and ensuring they had a successful and enjoyable experience while visiting the store, as well as resolving any other issues that may have arisen.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
While a student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, under the direction of Dr. Amgad Hanna, M.D., I actively participated in research investigating therapeutic interventions for spinal cord injury, wrote and published two peer reviewed journal articles for the Journal of Neuroinflamation and Neural Regeneration Research, presented several posters, and participated in annual neurosurgical laboratory trainings with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Our research specifically focused on utilizing novel interventions to aid in functional and sensory recovery after spinal cord injury through the implementation of peripheral nerve grafts in conjunction with a sustained drug delivery platform to deliver therapeutic proteins at the graft-spinal cord interface to enhance axonal regeneration. During my time in lab, I performed surgical procedures on animal subjects including: laminectomies, spinal cord contusions, sciatic nerve graft harvesting, and axon tracing microinjections; assisted with subsequent functional, electrophysiological, and optical data collection; performed perfusions and harvested biological tissue samples; and paraffin embedded and cryosectioned spinal cord and brain tissue samples.
Office Intern
Student intern in the Office of the Lt. Governor of Wisconsin Rebecca Kleefisch. I serve as the first point of contact for constituents entering or calling the office. My duties include: preparing event and meeting briefs for the Lt. Governor, drafting letters to constituents on behalf of Lt. Governor Kleefisch, and assisting with office projects and research.
