I lead a small but dynamic team at STEMCELL Technologies, Quality Control Lab Operations.At the highest level, my team and I are problem solvers and gap fillers. We are responsible for most laboratory operational matters that are not team-specific, and for many issues that arise outside analyst teams' regular duties. We strive to be flexible, responsive and knowledgeable. In a word, we are QC’s internal customer service representatives.Our goal is to keep the laboratories under our care operating at maximal efficiency. We take the lead on addressing unplanned issues such as equipment failures, safety emergencies and reagent shortfalls. We implement and enforce new and existing standards and directives, such as those relating to equipment validation and health & safety. We are responsible for ensuring the laboratory space is clean, tidy and organized. We are responsible for continuous improvement initiatives in all areas.Our main areas of responsibility and expertise are:Equipment managementWe are responsible for determining and implementing the necessary process controls and procedures to ensure our equipment is compliant with GMP and all relevant standards (ISO 13485). In this regard we act as SME within QC for GMP and GDP. We are involved in the entire life cycle of equipment, from purchasing to release to decommissioning, and directly manage many parts of it.Laboratory Design and Build-Out We are responsible for taking the lead in designing and preparing both new and existing laboratory spaces. Our goal is to maximize improvements within a budget and make space transitions as smooth as possible.Health & SafetyWe identify and correct safety shortfalls, conduct monthly safety inspections, perform safety orientations for new employees, conduct risk assessments for equipment, activities and staff, and communication and enforce safety initiatives.Space and inventory managementLaboratory audit leadsThe views expressed on this website/weblog are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.
