Born in NJ moved to FL at a young age. Dad was a sportswriter and mom was a community social worker/angel. Raised middle class lost dad , young age. Watching mom work 3 jobs to raise 3 kids alone was tuff. Created extremely hard work ethic in me at a young age. I started working different jobs, from construction, foodservice, golf course, retail. Ended up sticking with constr. was the most exciting and rewarding for me. I always excelled in every job. Usually I'd end up bored with the repetitive tasks and no hope of promotion. I believe now, that I enjoyed Marine Constr. the most because it finally offered me a challenge. Knowledge I gained in those 8 years of hard back breaking work was priceless. I worked with 3 different companies each time offered higher pay. There was Duncan Seawall, Ram Marine Services, and Pinnacle Construction. Duncan offered me heavy equipment operator job after 1 year of employment. I also learned so much like building docks, boat lifts, boat ramps, boat houses, seawalls, erosion control, heavy equipment operator and maintenance, crane assembly, loading semis with concrete panels or heavy equipment, pulling loads, knowledge of different speciality tools, extreme problem solving skills, safety practices required by law, some spanish, customer service, leadership, reading blue prints, learning about inspection rules, dredging, barge navigating, and so much more. It was worth it for sure, but working yourself to death is not, especially for low pay. Time for a change. I had an opportunity for a job in retail as a delivery manager for 4 furniture stores in Venice, FL. We bought and sold new furniture, used furniture, patio furniture, and decor. I supervised the deliveries, scheduled drivers , warehouse laborers, followed leads on used furniture to purchase, managed deliveries and pickups, monitored inventory, all while supervising up to 8. The pay was definitely better. As a year went by, I began to realize I was still working myself to death.
