Contract at Swedish (through Tek-Systems), acting as daily service engineer. Used as back fill for FTE engineers detailed to a re-ip project. Daily use of TACACS, Orion, Cisco Prime and related ticketing and troubleshooting tools. Tasks included daily monitoring of trouble ticket queues, working with vendors and PM’s to drive projects, and monitoring on-going projects and tasks to ensure timely completion. Cisco shop; all devices (L2/L3) were older cisco variants, mostly 12r2 IOS and later. Liaison between “customer teams”, (Med, Systems, etc.,) and the networking infrastructure team. Most projects were on-site at Seattle area hospitals, including First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, Edmonds and Issaquah. Project cancelled until F1 2016; contract will terminate 05/30/2015.

I was part of a small, independent contracting company with 12 employees and about 50 contracts. Daily tasks include monitoring of internal and external networks, troubleshooting VPN’s and Data Center issues, including routing between ISP’s. I was the Point-of-Contact for 10 customers; responsible for triage of incoming system issues and routing of trivial incidents to tier 1. Organized and mentored the daily tasks of tier 2 technicians, including creation of walk-through’s and instructionals for both internal and external use. Daily use of Win 2k3, 2k8 and Linux variants (mostly ubuntu, gentoo and RHEL). Primary project leader on several projects, including a physical migration, remote and local site upgrades, hardware upgrades, software upgrades, physical prem upgrades and design, purchasing and network upgrade for a Data Center (in Dallas.) I spend a monthly rotation on tier 3 supervisory (during projects or maintenance). I also acted as the ad-hoc security engineer during a customer-responsible attack on our network, and acted as the abuse mediator for removing our various sub-nets from the DNSBL’s and Blacklists.
I was tasked with day-to-day operations and management of a world-class abuse reporting and investigation system. Worked daily with Windows, Linux and Cloud(EC2/ELB/SW3) based computers. Helped write scripts and programs for a variety of purposes, in a variety of languages, including suspension of fraudulent accounts, automatic throttling and isolation of abusive accounts and generating e-mails to customers to warn of abusive activities. Worked closely with the Development team to design and implement a new, comprehensive Abuse Processing tool (Absolution) that went live May of 2010. The tool was an astounding success.After passing the internal Amazon “voice” examination, I was tasked with creating new customer communication templates. I worked closely with a number of personnel from a variety of departments, including Network Security, Business Development, Developer Support, EC2 Abuse, and others to drive forward new standards and develop new operating procedures to ensure Amazon maintains its position atop the Cloud. I helped develop new procedures and standards for investigating, prosecuting and resolving abuse complaints by and against AWS EC2 customers in a timely and accurate manner. I worked with a variety of external agencies, as well, to ensure that Amazon remains “Good Neighbors” on the internet, including Cisco, SpamHaus, SpamCop, The FBI, the Secret Service and others.
