This role works across all parts of Oranga Tamariki, external agencies, Ministries and Youth Justice service providers to inform, design, develop and lead central justice system initiatives that advance the Oranga Tamariki Youth Justice strategy and deliver positive outcome for vulnerable young people.This position is a strategic executive role to ensure the Oranga Tamariki Youth Justice Service harnesses cross-agency and cross-sector support for its outcomes and is positioned to succeed.This role was a lead contributor to the Oranga Tamariki Youth Crime Task Force which implemented a range of recommendations from the Cabinet paper “Strengthening our response to serious offending in children and young people”.

From December 2012 - June 2014 I was the Hospital Liaison Practice Leader between CYF and MidCentral DHB. Key tasks of this role were assisting health clinicians regarding child protection matters - providing advice, information and guidance; developing Multi-Agency Safety Plans in conjunction with the Police and the DHB; training DHB staff in child protection matters and co-facilitating family violence training with the DHB.In 2013 I completed the MSD Emerging Leaders Programme. As part of this programme I completed a project on Protecting Unborn Babies and developed a resource to assist social workers when working with this highly vulnerable group of clients.The primary purpose of Practice Leader role is to:o ensure a clear focus on key strategic practice priorities o lead the transfer of knowledge and our evidence base to site practiceo ensure the strengthening of practice competency on siteo work with the Site/ YJ Manager to ensure professional site plans are appropriate and facilitatedo support the provision of quality professional supervision

The key functions of the role were to:- Support Child, Youth and Family managers and staff through the Registration of Social Workers process.- Work in partnership with the Social Workers Registration Board and the Competency Assessment Providers to enable the smooth running of the Registration process.- Provide regular reporting and statistics on progress to management.- Respond to Parliamentary Questions and Official Information Act requests for information.

During this period I was involved in the very successful development and implementation of the Horowhenua/Otaki Children's Team. I also led the Site through a prototype project in relation to the Simplification of Payments to Foster Carers. This project was also very successful and resulted in a recommendation being made by the Project Lead to roll the process out Nationally.Key tasks of the Site Manager role are to:- Lead and manage Site Office staff by providing an environment within which service delivery and practice excellence can be achieved.- Manage the site’s financial resources and assets efficiently and effectively.- Ensure that the Professional Supervision Policy operates effectively and that staff health and safety systems are operating.- Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), casework and quality indicators and standards are managed and met.- Implement and maintain inter-sectoral collaboration between the site and other service delivery functions ensuring effective relationships with partner agencies, NGOs, community groups and contracted service providers.- Develop, build and foster relationships with Iwi, Maori and Pacific Peoples and other client groups within service delivery contexts to ensure social work services are proactive, timely and appropriate.- Manage the effective use of contracted services. - Manage the regular assessment and reporting of site management practices and processes to ensure they continue to meet the Department’s needs and identify and implement improvement opportunities as required.- Respond to complaints in accordance with departmental procedures and ensure Ministerials, Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests are managed in accordance with organisational standards.- Identify and manage risks, including casework risks and escalate where appropriate. - Develop and implement site plans in line with organisational and regional priorities.
