Commercial and government software▪︎ For nine years led architecture, design, engineering, and support of business-critical digital forms systems that have generated AUD $45 million in government energy certificates for two clients. I manage these systems on AWS (Rails, Sinatra, Node on EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, RDS, Lambda) and native iOS apps▪︎ Led architecture and backend engineering for BAL Plan—a geo-enabled iPad app for Australian municipal land planners to simulate bushfire threat levels based on topography and vegetation. This app won five national and international awards for Spatial Enablement, and Process & Planning Improvement▪︎ Led backend engineering for Fire Inspections—an iPad app that digitized bushfire safety inspection processes for Australian municipal councils. We sold the app to three councils and won three state and national awards for New & Emerging Tech in Fire AwarenessInteractive museum exhibits▪︎ In response to open RFPs I designed, pitched, won commissions, and built multi-player touchscreen game tables for two major exhibitions at the Melbourne Museum (Australia), including a retro 1980s arcade-style game table called Face Invaders▪︎ We were commissioned to build an outdoor weatherproof kiosk for Healesville Sanctuary (Australia). I designed the technical solution, sourced specialized hardware, built a capacitive sensor into a cast brass toilet roll, and wrote software that used the sensor to trigger the kiosk▪︎ Led concept, technical design, and implementation of an interactive virtual diorama for a regional tourism body. Built 3D models of the landscape based on satellite data, wrote software to enable dynamic placement of landmarks and markers by lat/long coordinates, and wrote the 3D camera system▪︎ Drawing on our decade of building touchscreen kiosks for major Australian museums, I am now productizing our kiosk engine. My focus is easy-to-use software that is stable and secure in high-uptime public-facing environments

Magian Design Studio is an Australian agency specializing in interactive museum exhibits. I was personally involved in projects for the Liberty Science Centre (USA), Virginia Aquarium (USA), Utah’s Hogle Zoo, Canadian Museum of Nature, Museo Interactivo de Economía (Mexico), The Scientific Center of Kuwait, and the Museum of Australian Democracy.◼︎ I designed the technical infrastructure, and specified and sourced hardware (computers, touchscreens, projectors, sensors, signal extenders, and network equipment) for high-uptime visitor-facing exhibits.◼︎ I performed on-site commissioning in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Malaysia, Kuwait, China, and Australia, where I was responsible for software installation, hardware integration, and contractor management.◼︎ I ran sales booths at trade shows in the US and China.

◼︎ I was a technical administrator of central email and calendar services for 40,000 students and 3,000 staff.◼︎ By my own initiative I conceived and developed a web service in JSP/TomCat used by all staff for automated network firewall access requests.◼︎ I led a project to acquire network intrusion detection appliances; I evaluated sample hardware, performed network penetration testing, produced a procurement recommendation report, and disclosed vulnerabilities to the vendors who provided sample hardware.
