Intentionally implements community-building initiatives based on food justice for people of color in Austin. Builds capacity for Veggie Mijas and partner intiatives through community garden programming at the Rundberg YMCA and artistic projects such as the Veggie Mijas Warmth and Care Zine.

I worked on diverse projects related to green infrastructure, environmental justice, community and small area planning, community and ecological resilience, healthy equity, and landscape ecology.

This fellowship is designed to provide leaders from 103 different countries with support in exploring different pathways toward a more sustainable future within the context of urban environments. The goal is to localize Sustainable Development Goal 11 in each fellows city.

Provided support as faculty worked to launch The Equity Center. The aim of the center is to foster a community-engaged scholarship that acknowledges UVA not just as an anchor institution, but a community resource.

Researched Freedmen's Towns in Dallas, Texas and looked at the ways in which urban development impacted these areas. I also looked at how these areas were redlined and how the Civil Rights movement in Dallas shaped these communities.

Charlottesville, Virginia Area

Researched and analyzed over 100 universities and the ways in which they engage their local communities. This work was part of a larger effort to understand the power and influence universities have as anchor institutions and how they might better leverage their resources beyond models of service.

Researched local and national food justice leaders and initiatives, universities pioneering the way in food system institutes, and looked into the history of food cultivation in relation to slavery at UVA for a 3-day Bicentennial Symposium.

Worked with a team of other conference leaders to make sure that the various conferences that came to SMU during the summer ran smoothly.

Cleaned and prepared Mosasaur bones for an exhibit set to open at the Smithsonian in 2018 as well as working on other projects related to paleontology.
