I managed a team of two in full-charge bookkeeping and finance functions for a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Day-to-day, I split my time between two major workflows. I supervised all general ledger activities, including periodic payroll for 35 employees, budgeting, forecasting, and tax reporting. I provided leadership to capital projects and our annual budget development, holding final responsibility for interfacing with external auditors and managing discussions about internal controls, accruals, and complex estimates.I also personally handled one of our organization’s most complex accounting areas, government reimbursement contract accounting. Like many not-for-profit organizations, the completeness and accuracy of our expense allocation and reporting was the foundation of our ability to fund operations for the communities we served. I held final responsibility for developing expense allocation methodologies and preparing monthly reimbursement requests for city, county, and state contracts.Some of my proudest achievements include:✰ I guided the accounting group through five consecutive agency audits with no findings. ✰ I led capital expenditure due diligence for the $2M purchase of a new building.✰ I developed a complex personnel costing model in Excel that allowed for enhanced scenario analysis and eliminated inexplicable personnel cost variances.✰ I championed and chaired an ad-hoc board group to develop annual budget guidelines and a decisioning process.✰ I obtained additional $120K in cost reimbursements from government contracts by aligning our system’s overhead account mapping to contractually stipulated cost groupings.✰ I supported contract and grant decision making with end-of-period funding projections based on current usage trends.

I managed all accounting activities including agency cost accounting, adjusting entries, account analysis, and reconciliations during month-end close. I used ADP Payroll to process salaries and wages, including general and statutory deductions, for five employees. I also operated internal controls over our accounts payable (A/P), check issuance, and accounts receivable (A/R) processes.One of my main responsibilities was using KPI reporting to monitor performance and the results of operations. In addition to A/R aging and collections analysis, I created a monthly financial statement package with supplementary flux analyses to support decision making by other senior management. I also developed and presented the results of trend analyses to business partners and senior leadership.Some of my proudest achievements include:✰ I anchored the migration from Peachtree to QuickBooks Pro, including implementing the chart of accounts, significant customers, jobs, classes, and subclasses.✰ I developed financial models to analyze expenses, forecast revenue, and support decision making with break-even analysis.✰ I instituted internal budget reporting that gave program managers improved control over spending.

Recruited to bring financial order to a rapidly expanding business, I directed all accounting and finance activities including A/P, A/R, payroll, tax preparation, month-end close, capital expenditures analysis, and KPI reporting. Organizational scaling is accompanied by substantial operational and credit risk, and I took ownership of enterprise risk assessment and mitigation strategy to ensure that our finances and debt structure would support growth.With the greatest visibility into the leverage and operations of the business, I was also charged with identifying emerging risks and creating strategies to mitigate financial issues such as unstable cash flow, stagnant revenues, and ballooning expenses.
