Trainee Pharmacist Position is all about learning about all the aspects of the pharmacy position as it applies to the hospital setting.This includes learning not only about the operational standards as they apply to tradtional outpatient and inpatient drug distribution services but also the provision of drug information and clinical services to the hospital and beyond.

I was initiated into the practical field of pharmaceutical services offered by the hospital which includes:Aseptic Dispensing, Outpatient Dispensing, Radio Pharmacy, Inventory Control and Clinical Care.I was part of the team that performed the following tasks while at SKMCH&RC:1. DUR of Colistin in aggressive Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas infections.2. Comparative pharmacoeconomic study of Filgrastim and Lenograstim in Cancer patients.

During this mandatory internship, I was exposed to the basic framework used for the Purchase process for drugs in Services Hospital. I was also shown practical application of the basic inventory control procedure within the main store and was exposed to day to day management of the specialised outatient and emergency pharmacies.Due to the availability of an outstanding Diabetes Management Centre in the Hospital i was able to learn about the pharmaceutical aspect of disease management as well as specialised counseling of diabetic patients.

I elected to attend an optional internship at PCSIR and completing the following tasks:1. Mineral Estimation of 5 local varieties of dates using atomic absorption spectrophotometer.2. Isolation of alkaloids from medicinal plants using an acid-base extraction procedure and their estimation with HPLC.3. Preparation of anti-ulcer herbal syrup.
