My career has been driven by my passion for connecting arts to audiences and audiences to the arts. I have held senior marketing and digital roles with several high-profile performing arts and online music organisations in Wellington, Auckland, London and New York, including Chamber Music New Zealand, Royal New Zealand Ballet, English National Ballet, Classical.com, New Zealand Opera and Auckland Live. In 2010, I founded The Audience Connection, a boutique consultancy based in Aotearoa New Zealand that worked alongside cultural organisations to build and engage with their audiences via effective use of digital and other channels.Over a very busy period of ten years, The Audience Connection’s clients included festivals, opera companies, museums, chamber music ensembles, literary events, dance and theatre companies, funding bodies, service organisations, vendors and individual creative practitioners across several countries. I was thrilled to design and lead Creative New Zealand’s digital capability programmes over this decade. With my team and some key industry partners, I created and delivered a New Zealand sector-wide digital marketing benchmarking programme, Optimiser. This initiative saw 42 arts organisations collaborate to share and compare data from their digital channels to set benchmarks and better understand success. During that time, I spoke at a number of conferences and contributed to publications about digital marketing in the arts. With Roger Tomlinson, I co-wrote A Practical Guide to Developing and Managing Websites and I was a contributing author, along with Roger Tomlinson and Tim Roberts, of the New Zealand version of FULL HOUSE: Turning Data into Audiences.In my current role at Tessitura, I am proud to manage digital communications, digital analytics insights, social media strategy and crisis communications for the leading arts and culture technology non-profit. As a member of our international marketing team, I work with some incredibly smart and insightful colleagues who are supporting arts and cultural organisations of all sizes to achieve success.I never stop learning and I love to support others in this field.
