Profile bio

About Vika Zafrin

I learn and teach all the time, formally and informally. I love combining and recombining knowledge to come up with something new. I've helped people see literary text as data, experiment with new tools and methods for both pedagogy and research, work to deliverables where they may not have before, and find common language with professionals from other fields.I have a PhD in digital humanities, a field that applies computational tools and methods to humanities research and teaching. Before moving on to the tech industry, I spent 12 years working in academic libraries at a major research university—building digital collections, teaching people about computational tools and methods, and sometimes co-creating projects with humanities researchers. I also did IT-adjacent and strategic work, serving on the requisition, implementation, and operation teams for several enterprise-level software packages, and sitting on an Information Services and Technology governance committee.I've been a project manager for highly cross-functional teams, sometimes also rolling up my sleeves and setting up websites or writing scripts. I'm a deep or broad researcher as needed, specializing in synthesis of complex information for a lay audience. I love managing people, and am a rigorous and empathic team lead. My versatile thinking has led to a work history of conceptual and organizational innovation, often in the form of infrastructure that feels supportive instead of obstructive. I love connecting people to each other and creating an environment where they can do their best work.Fundamentally, I build relationships. I use empathy and active listening skills to understand what my conversation partners need, and then work with them to provide or co-create it.I'm motivated by opportunities to create scaffolding. Work I'm most passionate about tends to involve organizational and/or technical infrastructure building, team/project management, post-sales client success work, and/or data systems management and optimization.

Listed skills include Research, Higher Education, Editing, Grant Writing, and 16 others.
