As a junior at Harvard-Westlake High School, I am passionate about the intersection of STEM and business. I have experience in leadership roles, app development, and research. In my freshman year, I took on leadership roles in the South Asian Student Alliance (SASA) and the South Bay Indian American Association (SBIAA), where I organized cultural events and managed finances. My participation in the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in San Antonio allowed me to collaborate with peers to enhance school diversity initiatives. Additionally, as one of four elected Senators, I orchestrated a school-wide chess tournament and developed a peer tutoring program, showcasing my commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment. My sophomore year saw the co-founding of Making Waves Tutoring, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing math education. Partnering with the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), we provide free critical thinking math education to students in grades 3-8. Leading a dedicated team of 25 tutors and students, I invest over 15 hours weekly into tutoring and management. My passion for STEM led me to a Summer Student Researcher role at the FDA, where I co-authored a published poster on the Leishmanin Skin test and developed a database tool to standardize and consolidate lab inventory using Python and SQL.Beyond academics, I am the libero for my Varsity Volleyball team, and I have competed with SCVC, a nationally ranked volleyball club, during my freshman and sophomore years. If you have any questions or would like to connect, feel free to reach out to me at vikbakaya@makingwavestutoring.com.
