Since 1988, I have worked in the field of international health as a senior program officer and as a behavior change communication specialist. During most of my career in public health, I worked with Johns Hopkins University managing, designing and implementing communication programs on HIV/AIDS, family planning, reproductive health, maternal health, malaria in pregnancy, water and sanitation, population and the environment, youth promotion, gender issues, and prevention of violence against children and women. In 2007, I joined the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator in the US Department of State in the capacity of Team Leader for Latin America and the Caribbean. My responsibilities included the provision of programmatic support to the US Government Country Teams to implement the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in the Region. Later, I worked for United Nations agencies such as UNICEF on global polio eradication in West and Central Africa, and with UNAIDS as Regional Technical Support Adviser for the Caribbean, and Community Mobilization and Networking Adviser in Guatemala. Currently, I am working with Maryland Nonprofits / Maryland Latinos Unidos as Director of the Health and Environmental Portfolio. I have completed a Master of Health Sciences (MHS) degree at the Johns Hopkins University / Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health (1993), and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) at the Johns Hopkins University / School of Business (2008).Specialties: Management of international health programs; behavior change communication; technical assistance; partnerships.
