Support and maintain InterSystems Caché databases for Epic systems application environments in accordance with established policies and procedures. Create and maintain documentation for use in infrastructure configuration, maintenance, and upgrade planning for Caché, AIX, and Epic releases. Maintain and provide routine daily support for Caché environments/namespaces; including databases, licensing, journaling, backup, shadowing, user connectivity, and system interfaces. Maintain and perform daily DBA tasks including programming, backing up and restoring, monitoring databases, and providing capacity planning. Configure and maintain Epic Systems Data Courier interfaces and protections. Move application build across environments via Data Courier, ensuring issues related to CID/UCI synchronization and dependencies are identified and resolved. Perform data backup and recovery; ensure database and data file integrity and availability. Define and monitor user protocols and security for AIX and Caché against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction. Coordinate, install, and maintain new software releases and database version upgrades. Evaluate and install patches and resolve software related database problems. Maintain awareness of emerging technology in the assigned functional area to identify ‘best in class’ trends; research trends to identify compliance, impact, efficiencies, costs and customer benefits surrounding implementation of best practices. Maintain current knowledge of technology trends including Caché, Epic software, and participate in system upgrades and testing. Identify issues and work to bring to resolution within required timelines.

Responsibilities include technical management of the hospital's computer system, network servers, workstations, and hub equipment. The hospital computer system consists of three DEC Alpha 1000A's, HP NetServer LS, 5 Dell 4100 Dual Processors, 6 Dell and Digital 166's, all running as servers with NT 4.0 Network hub equipment is primarily Cisco's Catalyst product line. VAMC Boise is one of 162 resource domains in a 22 master domain structure. Responsibilities also include maintenance and configuration for all hardware interfacing with the hospital system, such as terminals, printers, barcode scanners, etc.. Experience with Microsoft BackOffice, TCP/IP, NetBui, SMTP, Windows 95, NT 4.0 Workstation and Server.Programming responsibilities include maintaining code running on the system, along with developing new software programs for hospital users. The VA primarily uses the Mumps programming language, but has also standardized on Borland's Delphi for its GUI applications. I have also written programs using Visual Basic, Borland C++ Builder, and Visual C++. In my 5+ years at the VA, I have written hundreds of programs ranging from small enhancements to existing larger programs, to full stand alone applications. Some of the larger applications I have written deal with inventory of medical equipment, financial tracking of medical care contracted to surrounding hospitals, tracking shipping discrepancies, and managing an administrative log of hospital activities. I have written an application that updates patient information that has gone national, and has been distributed to all VA hospitals.
