Produce and maintain technical literature (Owner's Manuals, Installation Instructions, Parts Lists, Mechanics' Guides, etc.) for whole goods and accessories manufactured by the various divisions of Douglas Dynamics. Supervised and lead the design department of an independent Maine publishing company. Designed books (covers + interiors), catalogs, postcards, advertising, and other promotional works for independent authors, museums, and galleries. Oversaw and reviewed the work of others in the department, and mentored and supported their career goals. Assisted the owner and editing department with research related to copyright and permissions. Continuously worked to improve our policies and procedures to ensure that the collaboration with our authors and other customers was a great experience for them as well as for our staff.

When my previous employer transitioned out of web design, I started Cutter Blue Design and took over the existing clientele. As owner, in addition to my creative responsibilities, I attended to all customer service, including prospective-client outreach; assisted clients with domain registration, transfers, renewals, and trouble-shooting; and handled monthly invoicing and accounts receivable.

Designed the editorial features and columns of Fly Rod & Reel and Fly Tackle Dealer magazines. Worked with editors to create page plans. Made design, color, type, photography, and illustration decisions for each issue. Coordinated with advertising and production departments throughout process to meet film-output deadlines. Previously, Advertising Designer: Designed and laid out all advertising for five Outdoor Group publications (total of 36 issues per year).

Assisted owner of small commercial printer in every area of pre-press and bindery: design; camera work; stripping, plating, and developing negatives to metal plates; cutting, folding, stitching, drilling, collating. Performed customer service functions in the absence of owner. Limited sales.

Typeset customizations to be screen-printed. Performed computerized color separations of artists’ work. Prepared manual color separations of designs. (I was laid off from this position due to lack of work. The company eventually folded.)

In charge of pre-press production for fast-paced offset printer. Served as primary client contact, defined client needs, created camera-ready materials (in the time when mechanical paste-up evolved to digital), directed clients throughout proofing and printing processes. Facilitated production schedules. Hired, trained, supervised part-time personnel.
