At the off-campus ER for Delray Medical Center, we provided care to patients who came in with emergency related complaints 24/7. This required both nurses to be very skilled at procedures such as starting IV’s, inserting catheters, making soft splints, etc. If a truly emergency situation arose, such as a patient in a lethal cardiac rhythm, we would have to use whatever resources we had to stabilize the patient and transport them. We had to work with limited resources and staff and be at the top of our game at all times to ensure the highest level of care and safety was given to every patient that walked through our doors. Responsibilities include prepping patients for surgery, i.e. interviews, baseline vitals, lab draws, IV starts, EKG's, etc., as well as recovering patients after surgeries or procedures. These recovery responsibilities include fast assessment of the patient post-operatively, controlling pain and nausea, communicating with proper teams of abnormal findings, discharging home or transferring patient to unit, among many other responsibilities as they arise.
