Over the summers of 2021 and 2022, I worked at the Cheshire Oaks branch of Vue cinema on a part-time basis. On each day I was given the job of either floor or concessions, each of which came with its own set of challenges. Floor consisted mostly of cleaning screens between showings, which had to be done to a consistently high standard while also sticking to a strict time schedule as to not fall behind. I would additionally spend time on the door checking people’s tickets and guiding them to their screens, which involved a lot of face-to-face interaction, and often dealing with complaints or issues people may have as the first person they would come to. Concessions, likewise, involved a lot of customer interaction, as most of the time was spent on the tills, however here I also developed skills in handling money and selling specific products/deals to customers. Finally, due to me being slightly more experienced, I was often tasked with doing the opening or closing shifts, which adds an extra layer of responsibility since they involve not only the usual tasks, but setting up/closing down for the day as well.

Over the summer in 2020, I worked at Chester Zoo in the food and beverages department on a temporary full-time basis. My job mostly consisted of running one of the kiosks around the zoo (different ones depending on what was needed that day), as well as helping to clean up after my stall had closed. This has given me invaluable experience in food hygiene, as well as all aspects of health and safety, including extensive knowledge of protocols regarding the current pandemic situation. In addition, I was solely responsible for all the money handling and stock control on my kiosk for the day.One aspect of the job I particularly valued and enjoyed was the interaction with the public, as I served customers, fulfilling their needs to the best of my ability.
