Will is a nationally recognized researcher and speaker on the history of mental health treatment in outdoor settings. His dissertation (which can be downloaded under publications below) is the first in-depth chronicle of the history of wilderness and adventure therapy. He has presented at numerous conferences, including the Wilderness Risk Management Conference, the Wilderness Therapy Symposium, and Association for Experiential Education Conference. He has also been invited to consult with several organizations, including Patagonia, Rippleffect, Outward Bound, Mountain Valley Treatment Center, Mansfield Hall, and Gould Academy.Will has served as the Chair of the Therapeutic Adventure Professionals Group of the Association of Experiential Education, Secretary for the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, and been involved with the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council. He is the author of Stories from the Field: A History of Wilderness Therapy, which is the most in-depth book on the history of the field to date. He is the host of the podcast "Stories from the Field: Mental Health and the Outdoors."As co-founder of Summit Achievement, Will has helped to establish Summit Achievement as the premier adventure therapy program in the Northeast. In his over twenty-five years at Summit, Will has served as a Primary Therapist, Clinical Director, Clinical Supervisor, CEO, and Director of Business Development at Summit Achievement. He is a passionate advocate for the integration of mental health treatment in the outdoors as a catalyst for change. He departed Summit in winter of 2022 after over 26 years of being an owner and employee.
