About Will Richardson
I am an experienced, highly relational leader and strategic manager in higher education. As Special Assistant to the Provost for the last 10 years, I have successfully overseen executive staffing (recruitment of over 40+ senior leaders) and coordinated executive communications for the provost's 34 direct reports, including 20 deans of the various schools and colleges, 4 academic vice presidents, 4 vice provosts, and 4 associate provosts. I am also responsible for the most senior-level academic events, including university commencement, high-profile academic lectures, institutional academic honors, and meetings of the academic leadership.I have played a pivotal role in supporting 16 individual Presidential Faculty Hiring Initiatives, working with the Provost’s Task Force on Academic Excellence to identify strategic areas for targeted, interdisciplinary cluster hiring in areas of strength and opportunity, such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Brain and Behavioral Health, Integrative Precision Agriculture, and E-Mobility. My contributions have been instrumental in UGA recruiting hundreds of distinguished faculty members who contribute to the university’s research and academic excellence.I have worked collaboratively with and led committees on a wide range of initiatives vital to institutional strategic priorities, including experiential learning for undergraduates, women's leadership development among faculty, increasing faculty external honors, developing a new institution-wide central policy library, establishing a new MFA program in film, a significant revision to annual review and post-tenure review policy for faculty, the creations of an Institute for Sustainability, developing best practices for on-campus clinics, and the academic integration of the newly established School of Medicine (2024).I hold a Master of Public Administration degree with a focus on management and organization theory. I am most interested in strategic management, leadership, and organizational change in institutions of higher education. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Insitute for Higher Education at UGA.
