The Farm was an area of vacant land that we were able to create an operational and beautiful garden that will produce food for the Greater Chicago Food Depository as well as allow the community an open space to enjoy quiet summer days in an environmentally friendly space. The initial duties included cleaning the open space. The concept was founded by us, the crew to fill the large space for community use and growing food for the greater food depository. We utilized Sewer pipes as planters, reclaimed lumber to build planter benches. Earth boxes were created to for cantaloupesokra, basil, sage, etc. By the end of October we were able to harvest the crops. This empowered me to have a special appreciation for giving back to the community. It provided me an opportunity to grow as an invidiual. I will continue to work with the BYNC in enriching neighborhoods. Show less
