The UC Center Sacramento program was a hands-on experience that allowed me to gain first-hand knowledge of California's public policy challenges and processes. While interning with the UC Governmental Relations Office at the State Capitol, I also attended a weekly seminar taught by UC Davis faculty. The internship allowed me to work closely with governmental relations staffers to understand the issues concerning the University of California (UC) and strategies for influencing legislation pertaining to healthcare, education and labor standards. I analyzed bills moving through the legislature to identify key aspects of UC concern or priority, and participated in legislative committee meetings. I assisted the SRO staff in lobbying legislators and other organizations to build support for and opposition to amendments and specific budget lines.
