Research Activities:● Scientific programming in support of academic research, such as analysis and comparison of a suite of drought indicators for targeted countries; using IDL, Python, ENVI, ArcGIS● Use IDL, Python, ENVI, and ArcGIS to analyze climatology data for spatial, seasonal, and multi-decade timescale trends, which involves downloading, formatting, and organizing multiple datasets. ● Use IDL to develop climatology, crop models (such as GeoWRSI), and other drought/flood indicators● Support Center efforts to assess and produce new datasets (e.g., CHIRPS3)● Support and collaborate on the SubX precipitation forecast project● Support and collaborate on the eMODIS/evMOD/eVIIRS NDVI projectOperational Duties:● Perform one-off analyses to characterize acute food security events, in support of our field scientists. ● Develop and maintain systems for monitoring meteorological and hydrological conditions (e.g., Early Estimates, Seasonal Monitor, Seasonal WRSI Monitor)● Assist with monthly assessments of data products before release (e.g., CHIRPS Final) ● Assist/co-author monthly reports on climate-related food security conditions in food-insecure areas (e.g., CM4EW)● Continue to explore methods for improving product and compute environments for the Center (e.g., PulseCheck, log files, programming methods/tricks)● Perform one-off tasks to assist PIs and other Center scientists
