Technology is remaking the global electricity sector. We’ve gone from Thomas Edison, to a new world featuring high-tech capabilities and alternative, zero-emission energy sources like solar. Innovative technology companies now offer distributed generation, storage, and advanced energy efficiency solutions. Our fossil-fuel-dominated, centralized system is giving way to a network that is intelligent, customer-oriented, green, and more resilient than its 100-year-old parent. I have worked on this transition both in senior government roles, and in the private sector. Now, I am heading an NGO focused on accelerating global energy transformation, as part of the efforts to fight climate change. At CCAP, we work with policy, technology and climate finance, creating practical solutions to the challenges of climate change and key environmental issues. CCAP stands for the Center for Clean Air Policy, but we’re involved in a wider range of challenges than the name suggests – including promotion of renewable energy and distributed energy resources, clean transportation, green development and methane abatement. We work with governments, other NGO’s, and the private sector on the decarbonization of the global economy. I’ve been a regulator, legislator, investor, board member, and company leader. I’ve worked in large companies and start-ups. And I strongly believe that you have to think and act like an entrepreneur – no matter the size or type of the organization – to be successful. At Duke Energy, and elsewhere, I worked with pioneering energy startups and I’m interested in opportunities to become an advisor or director for energy entrepreneurs.I believe this energy transition will create jobs, lower costs and offer 24-7 electricity to the billions of people with no, or intermittent access, to the grid. We are in the middle of an energy revolution that will reimagine this sector into something that even Edison could not have imagined.
