About Will Richardson

We stand at what many are calling a “hinge-moment” in history, a moment when we’re faced with fundamental choices of who we want to become as individuals and as institutions as we stare down multiple, growing existential crises. For educators especially, navigating this moment requires asking fundamental questions about our purpose, our practice, and our systems and structures. And, it also requires seizing the opportunity to reimagine our schools as places that center wellness, relevance, justice, and sustainability. To meet this "epic design challenge," Homa and I and our team work with schools, organizations, and individuals to:~Develop critical skills for thinking about and designing for the future~Identify what matters most, what isn’t working, and what new opportunities exist~Build capacity to implement and sustain a long-term, culture-based change process that is iterative and transparent~Tap into fundamental questions about mission, vision, and practice in new ways~Create a compelling vision for what their school might become~Develop critical dispositions like fearless inquiry and storytelling for school change~Practice the rapid prototyping of ideas~Connect to and build community with school leaders and educators from around the world. If you want to join us on this journey, please get in touch: will@bigquestions.instituteWhat people are saying: “In all my years as a school leader, I’ve never heard such high praise for professional development sessions as for the ones we did with BQI.” ~Dr. Heather Rogers Beck, Deputy Head of School, Canadian International School, Singapore"I thought Will was fantastic. Really great...Will is someone you have to listen to." ~Sir Ken Robinson, (co)Lab Conference Keynote, Atlanta, GA.“Thanks for blowing us all away! What a great, stunning experience and awesome challenge.” ~Dr. Karen Dobric, Deputy Principal at Papatoetoe High School, Aukland, NZ"The best professional learning, development, and networking I have participated in my 25 years in education." ~Peter Johnston, Principal, Surrey, BC, Change School Cohort 3Ready to work with us? If you're a leader seeking to understand what real change looks like in schools, and you're looking for a passionate community of global leaders who are already doing the work, head on over to bigquestions.institute for all the details, or email me directly at will@bigquestions.institute.

In this new story, real learning happens anytime, anywhere, with anyone we like, not just with a teacher and some age-grouped peers in a classroom from September to June. More importantly, it happens around the things that we learners choose to learn, not what someone else tells us to learn. How can schools adjust? Or students? Or parents? In this provocative read, respected education writer Will Richardson offers a bold plan for rethinking how we teach our kids, and the consequences if we don't. Show less

We have access to tools will allow us to build global learning networks where we can pursue our intellectual and creative passions with people around the world. As educators, these networked opportunities present a very big challenge. To prepare students to flourish in this new learning world, schools will need to transform themselves in important ways. Professional Learning Networks: Using the Power of Connections to Transform Education is a road map to follow down the path to that transformation. In order to bring these learning networks into classrooms, teachers must first create learning networks of their own. Authors Will Richardson and Rob Mancabelli describe a bottom-up progression that can fundamentally change the way schools operate: - Understanding the power of these networks - Becoming a networked individual - Implementing a networked classroom - Becoming a networked school Using step-by-step advice and real-world stories, this book aims to narrow the technological divide, put educators on the same footing as students, and provide a recipe for incorporating these tools into every classroom.Amazon link: http://amzn.to/plnbook Show less
